Asian-American Cultural Festival

It's that time of a year again! We are a couple of weeks away from our annual Asian-American Cultural Festival and we are excited! Please come and join us in the celebration of the Asian Culture!

PEACE CAMP 2014

The 2014 San Angelo Peace Camp is scheduled from August 4th through 7th9:30 am—12:30 pm at First Christian Church 29 N. Oakes.  Peace Camp is an annual interfaith summer program for children that celebrates the principles of peace. If you have children or grandchildren, this camp will be a great learning and fun experience for them!

(Tom Green County Election Administrator)

 Vona McKerley is  the chief county election officer as well as the voter registrar for Tom Green County. She will discuss the new voting centers idea that were recently approved by the county commissioners. She will bring along a voting demo unit for people to try out and will answer any questions about voting.

 Angela Yang will be sharing many interesting destinations of the world through her own experience. Mrs. Yang have been in the travel industry for the last 45 years.

45 Years and Counting!


Sunday night at China Garden, friends and family gathered to celebrate a joyous occasion for this happy couple. AAAW Family would like to Congratulate Filomeno and Cecilia a Happy 45th Anniversary and wish them both more years to come.


Filomeno Andres and Cecilia Sorrera Salamanca were married March 29th 1969 at St. Raphael's Cathedral Church in Madison, Wisconsin. They are both retired from GTE/Verizon. They have lived in Madison, Wisconsin, Bloomington Illinois, Marion Ohio, and now in San Angelo Texas. They have two children, Alex Salamanca, and Cassandra Hill and three grandchildren, Desmond, Jada Marie, and Ava Laelle. Cecilia Salamanca is a member and former president of AAAW.

Congratulations to the San Angelo Spelling Bee Regional Champ 
 Kasey Torres


First Place and Champion, Kasey Torres is the son of Nelson and Catherine Torres. He will be advancing on to the National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C.

Second Place, Franchesca Untalan is the daughter of Dr. Raymund and Frances Untalan.

These two childhood friends celebrated together before and after the competition.

The New Officers for 2014



The Association of Asian American Women of San Angelo held its installation of officers for 2014 on December 22. Newly elected officers are (from left) Rashda Khan, president; Girlyne White, first vice-president; Charlene Cardenas, second vice-president; Erlinda Cline, recording secretary; Aurita Miller, corresponding secretary & director; Rose Ng, director; Dr. Kathryn Louie, treasurer & director; and (not pictured) Denise Le, assistant treasurer. Jeanie Phillips served as emcee for the installation. The association is a nonprofit organization established to promote and nurture Asian Culture in our Community and meets monthly.
